“QUEL BRUTTOCATTIVO DI PAPÀ CACCIARI!” di Lucio Angelini. Sono quattro racconti ironico-grotteschi per adolescenti & oltre, con una bellissima lettera di Massimo Cacciari in quarta di copertina. Di particolare interesse il racconto-dialogo “IL FANTOMATICO PIACERE DELLA LETTURA”, una sintesi di quanto di più significativo è stato detto negli ultimi anni sulla lettura e sui modi di favorirne la pratica tra i più giovani. Il lettore adulto, come si dovrebbe ricordare con maggiore frequenza, NON si improvvisa, VA COLTIVATO da piccolo.
“YOU, NAUGHTY FATHER CACCIARI!” (“QUEL BRUTTOCATTIVO DI PAPÀ CACCIARI!”) by Lucio Angelini. It is a collection of four ironical-grotesque TALES for readers from 10 up, with a beautiful letter by Massimo Cacciari, the well-known philosopher and mayor of Venice, printed on the back. The tale concerning him deals with the necessity for everybody to come to terms with the worst part of their past. Another tale (a tale in dialogue), “THAT ELUSIVE PLEASURE OF READING” is an especially interesting summary of the most significant recent reflections on reading and on the ways of encouraging it’s practise among the youngest. We should remember that the adults who love reading aren’t born; they develop when an appreciation of literature is promoted in childhood.
“SCOPPI IN ARIA: SCHOPENHAUER E I PINK FLOYD A VENEZIA”, di Anonimo Veneziano. È il primo romanzo-Arlecchino della storia della letteratura italiana, ottenuto per circa il 90% cucendo assieme “ritagli” di stoffa letteraria di oltre settanta autori. La storia è ambientata ai tempi del concerto veneziano dei Pink Floyd (luglio 1989): l’adolescente Costante Dorigo, dapprima attratto da una schopenhaueriana tentazione di “rinuncia alla volontà” (la stessa che ha sospinto suo fratello Guiscardo nel tunnel della droga) sente poi gonfiarsi in petto una indeterminata quanto perentoria voglia di “cambiare il mondo” (come già era accaduto, una ventina d’anni prima, a suo padre, ex-sessantottino rifluito).
“SHOTS IN THE OPEN AIR: SCHOPENHAUER AND THE PINK FLOYD IN VENICE” (“SCOPPI IN ARIA: SCHOPENHAUER E I PINK FLOYD A VENEZIA”), by an Anonymous Venetian: it is a bizarre teenage love story taking place in Venice during the days of the unforgettable Pink-Floyd concert (July 1989); and it is, too, the first Harlequin-novel (= made of remnants of literary cloth from over seventy different authors) of Italian literature. Costante Dorigo, the young protagonist, at first attracted by a Schopenhauerian temptation to giving up his will (the same renunciation as a result of which his brother Guiscardo found himself lost inside the vortex of heroine) all of a sudden feels his heart swelling up with an indeterminate but more and more peremptory aspiration for changing his entire world, and his languishing city (Venice) to begin with! His father, some twenty years earlier (in the mythical year 1968) had to experience something similar…
“PIETÀ DI ME, PER AMOR DI DIO, MI SALVI DALLA DISTRUZIONE!”, di Edgar Allan POE. Il volume, preparato per il Venice Poe Memorial Day del 7 ottobre 1999 (centocinquantenario della morte dell’autore, ricordato in tutto il mondo), raccoglie le dolenti lettere del giovane Edgar al padre adottivo John Allan, con il racconto “Figlio di volontà” (William Wilson), in cui sono adombrate le esperienze giovanili di Poe in un collegio inglese.
“FOR GOD’S SAKE PITY ME, AND SAVE ME FROM DESTRUCTION” (“PIETA’ DI ME, PER AMOR DI DIO, MI SALVI DALLA DISTRUZIONE!”) by Edgar Allan POE. The book, conceived for the “Venice Poe Memorial Day” (October 7 1999, one hundred and fifty years after the Author’s death), puts together the painful letters of young Edgar to his foster father John Allan, with the tale “William Wilson”, hinting at the English boarding-school where he spent a few years as a little boy.
“IL BABBO CHE CREDEVA A BABBO NATALE”, illustrato dal magico John Betti: un’originale vicenda natalizia, in cui un figlio smaliziato trova il modo di ricordare a suo padre, convinto assertore dell’esistenza di Babbo Natale, quale regalo gli convenga aspettarsi la mattina del 25 dicembre. Ottimo da regalare ai ragazzi dai 7 anni in su, ma anche, e soprattutto, ai loro genitori.
“THE FATHER WHO BELIEVED IN FATHER CHRISTMAS” (“IL BABBO CHE CREDEVA A BABBO NATALE”): a very unusual and provocative cardboard Christmas book illustrated by John Betti. The story is about a very shrewd son who finds a way of reminding his father (a strong believer in the existence of Father Christmas), which gift is the most fitting for him to expect on the morning of December 25th.
“L’INCREDIBILE STORIA DELLA FATA FATUCCIA E DELLA STREGA FORESTANA”
Orchi, streghe e fate, come gli scrittori per ragazzi sanno perfettamente (cfr. Roald Dahl, “Le streghe”) esistono davvero e popolano ogni tipo di mondo. Sono, inoltre, capaci di assumere le vesti più impensate, comprese quelle di critici letterari o direttori (e direttrici) di collane giovanili… La storia è un affettuoso, divertito omaggio a due note direttrici italiane di collane per ragazzi: Margherita Forestan (Mondadori Ragazzi) e Orietta Fatucci (Einaudi Ragazzi).
“THE INCREDIBLE STORY OF FATUCCIA THE FAIRY AND FORESTANA THE WITCH” [Red alert on children’s literature] (“L’INCREDIBILE STORIA DELLA FATA FATUCCIA E DELLA STREGA FORESTANA”)
Ogres, witches and fairies, as almost every writer of children’s books knows perfectly well (see Roald Dahl “The witches”) really do exist and populate their imagination. They can also appear in the most unthinkable disguises, including those of literary critics or editors of juvenile series…The story is a loving, ironical tribute to the two existing Italian editors MARGHERITA FORESTAN (Mondadori Ragazzi), and ORIETTA FATUCCI (Einaudi Ragazzi).

LIBRI MOLTO SPECIALI
contengono un forte elemento di sorpresa; privilegiano gli aspetti dell’ironia, dell’inusualità e dell’AVVENTURA INTERIORE (in opposizione al PLOT tradizionale); perseguono, nei limiti del tollerabile, intenti formativi e catartico-liberatori.
La prima suddivisione di catalogo distingue tra SORPRESE ITALIANE (con particolare attenzione ai DEBUTTI) e SORPRESE STRANIERE.
Le collane di partenza sono due:
1) I SAGUARI (l’altrove, il lontano e l’esotico nello spazio e nel tempo; il viaggio interiore);
2) I VERTIBILI, collana genericamente rivolta, da un lato, ai cosiddetti “young adults”, dall’altro allo sterminato e trascuratissimo popolo dei bambini-adulti e degli adulti-bambini. In base al TARGET sono previste le seguenti (non del tutto ironiche) fasce d’età:

Ha inaugurato la collana “QUEL BRUTTOCATTIVO DI PAPA’ CACCIARI!”, un vertibile calibrato sulla fascia (anagrafica e/o psicologica) “dai 13 ai 31 anni”, cui ha fatto seguito il patchwork di Anonimo Veneziano “SCOPPI IN ARIA: SCHOPENHAUER E I PINK FLOYD A VENEZIA”, destinato al target 15-51 anni.
The volumes of the new-born publishing house “LIBRI MOLTO SPECIALI” (“VERY SPECIAL BOOKS”) include a strong element of surprise; they privilege the aspects of irony, rarity and INNER ADVENTURE (as opposed to a traditional PLOT); they also pursue formative and/or cathartic aims, though in tolerable forms and doses.
The first subdivision distiguishes between Italian surprises (with a special attention devoted to DEBUTS) and foreign surprises.
To start, these two series:
1) the SAGUAROS(the elsewhere, the far off and the exotic in space and time; the inner trip);
2) the VERTIBLES, a series generically aimed at the so called “young adults” on the one hand, and on the other hand at the vast and mostly neglected people of children-adults and of adult-children. As for the TARGET, the following (not entirely ironic) stages are considered:
– 13 to 31;
– 14 to 41;
– 15 to 51;
– 16 to 61.
The series opens with “YOU, NAUGHTY FATHER CACCIARI!”, a Vertible book expressely targeted to register the psychological age or stage “13 to 31 years old”, in which it is Mayor Cacciari’s task to explain the moral of the tale.
Lucio Angelini, the author, has also been published by EL-Emme-Einaudi Ragazzi, Panini Ragazzi, Loescher, Il Capitello in Italy and by Flammarion in France.

«Caro Angelini,
o meglio, caro Luchino: grazie. Grazie del “divertissement”, che mi ha deliziato. E grazie di aver saputo rappresentare, con la leggerezza che Le è propria, una situazione per tanti aspetti anche mia. Il Sindaco, in effetti, è, per definizione, il Primo Cittadino e il Capo dell’Istituzione locale. Ma l’Istituzione, come sappiamo tutt’e due, non è forse “madre” e come tale destinata a proporsi, a darsi sempre e sempre ad essere lasciata? Sapesse quante volte – e non in sogno – è toccata al Sindaco Cacciari l’esperienza di non trovar più, nel momento decisivo, le mani che avrebbero dovuto sostenerlo e quindi di battere duramente la testa sul pavimento! Ciò nonostante, è ovvio che io e Lei continueremo ad affrontare la vita, i nostri impegni e le nostre aspirazioni seguendo (a dispetto di qualsiasi ostacolo o delusione o “bernoccolo”…) solo ciò che detta la nostra mente e la nostra coscienza.
